Description

PD-6 1934 Peace Silver Dollar NGC VF30

About This Coin:

Struck from 90% Fine Silver and 10% Copper by the United States Mint. Minted from 1921-1928 and again from 1934 -1935.

The Silver Peace Dollar replaced the Morgan Silver Dollar.

The 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar started the Pittman Act requirements to replace the melted coins used to help the United Kingdom in 1918. Numismatists urged for a redesign and they got it.

Completing the redesign of United States Coinage, the Silver Peace Dollar memorialized the Peace following World War I. It was first minted on December 28, 1921. Just over 1 million coins were minted bearing the 1921 date.

In 1928, the requirements of the Pittman Act had been fulfilled. Further minting of the Peace Dollar ceased until further legislation in 1934 required more to be struck from 1934-1935.

It is the last United Sates Dollar Coin to be struck for circulation in Silver.
