Official Silver Coin of the United States

The Liberty Coin Act of 1985 made the American Silver Eagle the official silver coin of the United States.

By November of 1986 bullion and proof versions alike were available for sale directly from the United States Mint.

Since 1986:

The American Silver Eagle Coins have a face value of $1 (USD). Which is backed by the federal government.

Since 1986 they have been issued with the date marks on the obverse side of the coin. Consisting of 1 Troy oz. of Silver at a .999 Silver purity. However, this year, 2021, marks the year for changes! Later this year, the reverse will receive a makeover. Until then, the 35-year design remains.
