Nearly fresh out of the bag kind of condition! A collectors choice coin by far. As originally, these coins were to never see the light of day. But instead be locked away in the treasury unless called upon by Silver Certificate redemption. Which rarely happened.

About the Morgan Silver Dollar:

1898:

In 1898 Congress approved a bill that required all silver bullion remaining under the Sherman Silver Purchase Act to be coined into silver dollars. When those silver reserves were depleted in 1904, the Mint ceased to strike the Morgan dollar.

1910:

The U.S. Mint destroyed all Morgan Dollar master hubs.

1918:

WWI events led to the British seeking help from the U.S. The British were experiencing a Silver shortage. Having issued more Silver Certificates in India, than they had Silver to back those certificates up. This jeopardized the entire WWI Allied side. Fast forward to their resolution:

The Pittman Act:

Sponsored by Senator Key Pittman of Nevada. This Act authorized the conversion of standard silver coin dollars into bullion. And were sold to Great Britain at $1 per fine ounce.

It also called for a temporary removal of Silver Certificates equal to the amount given to the British. These Certificates were temporarily replaced with the new issuance of Federal Reserve Bank Notes of $1. Including $2 denominations which debutted for the first time.

The Pittman Act also called for the Silver Coins in which were melted down, to be replaced after the war.

1920:

Between 1920 – 1933, the United States purchased the same amount of silver from American output mines. At a fixed rate of $1 per ounce. Which at the time, was actually ABOVE the current market rate.

US Engraver George Morgan made new, low relief hubs from scratch to replace the ones destroyed.

1921:

By March of 1921, Silver hit a low of 53 cents/ ounce. But the new Morgans were struck. Which with the new design, resulted in flat or lifeless looking coins. But no one cared. They were to be stored at the Treasury to back up the Silver Certificates. They were not intended to ever been seen.

By December of 1921, the Peace Dollar had officially replaced the Morgan Dollar. Production of the Morgan Dollar never commenced again!
